Electrical Controls Engineer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Electrical Controls Engineer to join a leading engineering and manufacturing organisation specialising in the design and delivery of advanced automated machinery and industrial systems.

Reporting to the Senior Electrical Controls Engineer, you will play a key role in developing innovative equipment concepts and control solutions that can be safely constructed, tested, commissioned, and delivered to customers worldwide. This position offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects involving PLCs, servo systems, robotics, HMI development, and machine commissioning.

Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop electrical control concepts and schemes that can be constructed and commissioned safely and effectively.Produce electrical drawings, general arrangements, panel layouts, bills of materials, schedules, and technical documentation.Design, develop, test, and commission PLC, HMI, servo motion, and robotic control systems.Ensure all designs comply with relevant health and safety legislation, standards, specifications, and quality requirements.Liaise with customers, suppliers, distributors, and internal departments to ensure successful project delivery.Identify and resolve technical issues, providing practical and cost-effective engineering solutions.Deliver projects within agreed timescales and budget constraints.Maintain accurate technical records throughout the project lifecycle.Support continuous improvement initiatives and promote engineering best practice.Travel internationally to support customer installations, commissioning activities, troubleshooting, and after-sales support.Collaborate with global group companies to provide technical support, machine testing, and problem resolution.Promote and maintain safe working practices and ensure compliance with company procedures and statutory regulations.Experience and QualificationsDegree qualification (BSc or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.Minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar engineering role.At least 5 years' experience in electrical design, preferably within the packaging machinery or automated machinery sector.Proven experience using AutoCAD Electrical.Strong experience with PLC-based control systems, including Rockwell/Allen-Bradley (RSLogix) and Siemens platforms.Extensive experience in programming, testing, and commissioning servo motion and robotic handling systems.Good understanding of CE Marking legislation and machinery safety standards.Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies.Full driving licence and valid passport.Willingness to travel internationally as required.Skills and CompetenciesStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.A proactive and self-motivated approach.Excellent teamwork and communication skills.Customer-focused mindset.Strong planning and organisational abilities.Project management capability.Ability to assess and manage technical risks.Attention to detail and commitment to quality.Strong influencing and negotiation skills.High level of computer literacy.Flexibility and willingness to travel internationally.What We OfferCompetitive salary and benefits package.Opportunity to work on innovative and technically challenging projects.International travel and customer-facing experience.Professional development and career progression opportunities.Collaborative and supportive engineering environment.

The employer specialises in the warehouse automation and intralogistics industry, and is a fast-growing leader in delivering advanced, high-performance automated storage and retrieval solutions. They are innovative, technology-driven, and focused on redefining how goods are stored, moved, and managed at scale. They have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Controls Engineer to join their team.

Responsibilities:
* Support Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and Commissioning with system integration expertise
* Design, program, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems (Beckhoff, Siemens, Allen Bradley/Rockwell)
* Develop electrical schematics, control panels, network diagrams, and safety systems
* Support system commissioning including first power-up, testing, and site acceptance testing
* Design and optimize automation logic, device communications, and material flow systems
* Lead technical discussions, vendor coordination, and junior engineers where required
* Contribute to risk assessments, functional specifications, and technical documentation
* Ensure compliance with UL standards and electrical safety requirements
* Provide on-site support during installation, commissioning, and customer handover phases

Requirements:
* 8+ years of experience in electrical controls engineering within custom automation
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Automation, Mechatronics, or related engineering field
* Strong PLC and HMI programming experience (Beckhoff, Siemens, Allen Bradley, Rockwell)
* Experience with industrial automation systems, safety scanners, and control systems
* Ability to design, install, troubleshoot, and optimize electrical and mechanical systems
* Proficiency in 2D CAD (required) and 3D CAD (advantageous)
* Experience with ePlan or similar electrical design software
