Position: Electrical Technician

Location: Cambridge

Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 - Negotiable Depending on Experience

Proactive are currently in search of a Multi-Skilled Electrical Technician to start work for a company based in Cambridge. You will be responsible for providing build and test support for the development and production of cutting-edge systems using your mechanical and electrical knowledge. This role will involve extensive overseas travel to install machines on client sites.

Main Responsibilities:

Reading & interpreting technical drawings.Wiring- flagging issues with supplier & internal quality.Testing and fault finding.Electrical Installation Take ownership and responsibility to ensure that the build process whilst maintaining a high-quality standard.Undertake electrical/functional testing of systems prior to the system being released.Support the testing and commissioning of systems.Develop and improve all aspects of the build process including standardisation of build and test methods to ensure highest product quality.Specify and maintain tools and equipment.

Knowledge and Experience:

Essential:

Good understanding of electrical principles.Good working knowledge of PLC hardware.Ability to read and understand electrical drawings.Excellent problem-solving skills - able to methodically and logically find root cause of technical issues.Excellent attention to detail, logical/methodical thinker.Working knowledge of standard manufacturing and engineering processes.Good communication skills - able to work across team/and functions.Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.IT literate - Effective use of MS Office.

Desirable

Basic knowledge of PLCKnowledge of safety circuits and system compliance will be an advantage.Drive for development and learning.Exposure to 5S Lean Manufacturing Methodology.

Electrical Mechanical Technician required to work manufacturing company based in Luton.

Role Purpose:

Provide hands-on technical support for the assembly, wiring and testing of electro mechanical systems. This role works under the supervision of engineers and ensures prototypes and pilot rigs are built to specification, ready for commissioning and field deployment, and have operational support.

Key Outcomes:

Accurate assembly of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing components following CAD drawings and wiring diagrams.Reliable wiring and terminations for sensors, controllers, and actuators, tested for continuity and safety.Leak-tight plumbing for water and gas systems, ensuring compliance with safety standards.Functional prototypes prepared for lab and pilot-scale testing, meeting quality and safety requirements.Field-ready systems installed and commissioned under engineer guidance.

Responsibilities:

Assembly & wiring: Build panels, connect sensors, actuators, and controllers; route cables neatly and securely.Plumbing: Install and test water and gas lines, fittings, and valves for experimental rigs and pilot systems.Testing: Perform continuity checks, leak tests, and assist in troubleshooting under supervision.Mechanical fitting: Assemble frames, mounts, and enclosures; operate workshop tools and assist with 3D-printed parts.Documentation: Record assembly steps, test results, and update checklists.Field support: Travel to pilot sites for installation and commissioning activities; assist engineers during setup and validation.Safety compliance: Follow Bluemethane's safety protocols for electrical, mechanical, and plumbing work.

Essential Skills & Experience:

Practical experience in electrical wiring, mechanical assembly, and plumbing for water and gas systems.Ability to read and follow CAD drawings and wiring diagrams (Autodesk Inventor/Fusion and Visio familiarity desirable).Competence with basic electrical testing tools (multimeter, signal calibrator).Hands-on skills with workshop tools and 3D-printed component handling.Proficiency with Windows OS for opening drawings and using Microsoft tools (Teams, Outlook, Excel).Strong attention to detail and ability to work under supervision.
