Location: Cambridgeshire
Salary: £38,000-£45,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience
Working Hours: Day shift (overtime available)

The Opportunity

We are looking for a hands-on, multi-skilled Service Engineer to join our client's team in Cambridgeshire. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with electrical experience to work on bespoke, custom-built machinery and automated systems.

The role offers a varied mix of on-site service and maintenance work at customer locations, alongside machinery assembly and engineering tasks at the company's premises.

We welcome candidates from a range of engineering backgrounds, provided they have suitable practical experience in electrical systems, troubleshooting, assembly or maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

Travel to customer sites to carry out servicing, maintenance, fault finding and repairs on bespoke machinery and automated systems.

Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical faults, implementing effective solutions to minimise downtime.

Carry out general electrical and mechanical assembly of machinery and equipment at the company's premises when not working on-site.

Assist with the installation, commissioning and servicing of machinery and automated equipment.

Work independently on customer sites while maintaining high standards of safety, quality and customer service.

Support the reliable operation and performance of equipment through effective maintenance and repair work.

Experience required

Practical experience working with electrical and mechanical systems, ideally within a service, maintenance, assembly or engineering environment.

Good fault-finding and troubleshooting skills, with a hands-on approach to resolving technical problems.

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams or engineering documentation where required.

Comfortable travelling to customer sites and working on a variety of machinery and equipment.

Experience working with robotics or automated systems.

18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification. (Desirable)

Experience with PLCs, including fault finding or programming.

Previous experience servicing, assembling or commissioning bespoke machinery.

We are currently recruiting for a Field Service Engineer / Equipment Engineer to join a leading global provider of Ground Support Equipment (GSE) maintenance within the aviation sector. Working between the workshop and customer sites, you will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, fault-finding, and repairing Ground Support Equipment (GSE), ensuring equipment remains safe, compliant, and fully operational in demanding aviation environments.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) on Ground Support Equipment.Diagnose faults and undertake reactive repairs to minimise downtime.Service, inspect, repair, and overhaul mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, brake, and drivetrain systems.Perform troubleshooting and diagnostic assessments on a range of airport support equipment.Ensure all equipment meets operational, safety, and compliance standards.Remove unserviceable equipment from operation and return it to service only once repairs are completed.Respond to breakdowns and emergency maintenance requests when required.Complete maintenance records and service documentation accurately.

Candidate Requirements

Previous experience as a Field Service Engineer, Equipment Engineer, Service Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, Plant Fitter, HGV Technician, Vehicle Technician, or similar.Strong mechanical fault-finding and repair skills.Experience working on plant machinery, vehicles, powered equipment, hydraulics, or heavy machinery.Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and hydraulic systems.Full UK Driving Licence.Ability to work independently and within a team.Aviation or Ground Support Equipment experience is advantageous but not essential.
