Maintenance Technician

Salary: £18.00-£20.00 per hour DOE
Hours; Standard Day Shift

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on and experienced Maintenance Technician to join our engineering and production team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs across a range of manufacturing equipment. You will play an important role in keeping machinery operating safely and efficiently, minimising downtime, and supporting continuous improvements across the site.

This is a practical role suited to someone with strong mechanical maintenance experience who enjoys problem-solving and getting involved on the shop floor.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs on a range of machinery.Maintain and repair equipment including lathes, mills, grinders, furnaces and wire-making lines.Support the mechanical assembly and installation of bespoke welding machines.Assist with managing the site maintenance schedule to help minimise downtime and maintain production efficiency.Identify and implement opportunities to improve machinery, equipment and production processes.Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out effective repairs in a timely manner.Work closely with the Maintenance and Production teams to ensure equipment is safe, reliable and fit for purpose.Maintain a safe and organised working environment, following relevant health and safety procedures.

Essential Experience, Skills & Qualifications

Strong mechanical maintenance experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.Experience maintaining manual or CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills and grinders.A hands-on, practical approach with strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.Ability to work independently while also working effectively as part of a team.A proactive attitude and willingness to get involved across a range of maintenance activities.Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship, Level 3 NVQ, City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering, or a similar recognised qualification.

Desirable Experience

Experience maintaining production machinery.Experience working with or maintaining industrial furnaces.Experience with bespoke machinery or mechanical assembly.

Specifically, candidates need to have direct power transformer design/manufacturing experience
2-12 years' experience in electrical design, ideally within the power transformer manufacturing industry
Understanding of transformer electrical design, including thermal, dielectric and short-circuit considerations
Understanding of transformer mechanics and overall performance
Knowledge of relevant IEC / IEEE / IS standards

Working as part of an experienced team of Machinists you will perform a wide variety of machine shop operations including re-work, miscellaneous precision machining tasks, and maintenance of shop equipment.
