Field Project Manager

Location: UK & Ireland
Contract Length: approx. 9 Months
Start date: January 2027
Working Pattern: Full-Time
Day rate: £400 + travel expenses Inside IR35 PAYE

As a Field Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading critical deployment projects from planning through to handover. Working closely with engineering, operations, contractors, and project teams, you will ensure that all aspects of project execution are delivered to the highest standards.

This role offers the opportunity to work on large-scale projects involving automation, material handling equipment, engineering infrastructure, and operational improvements within a dynamic and growing environment.

Frequent travel and extended periods onsite will be required, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working directly within operational environments and seeing projects through to completion.

Responsibilities:

Lead the onsite execution of engineering and infrastructure projects across multiple locations.Manage project schedules, milestones, deliverables, and resource planning.Coordinate internal stakeholders, contractors, suppliers, and third-party vendors.Conduct site assessments and readiness reviews prior to project deployment.Monitor project performance, identify risks, and implement mitigation plans.Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health, safety, and quality standards.Oversee equipment installation, commissioning, testing, and operational handover activities.Facilitate effective communication between project teams and operational stakeholders.Manage project documentation, reporting, and governance requirements.Track budgets, project costs, and change control processes.Support project closeout activities, including lessons learned and final project documentation.Drive continuous improvement initiatives and identify opportunities to enhance project delivery processes.

Requirements:

Engineering degree or equivalent technical qualificationProven experience with Material Handling Equipment (conveyor systems, sortation systems, high-speed packaging lines, manufacturing lines)Demonstrated project management capability on large-scale, complex technology projectsSix Sigma / Lean methodology certification or practical experienceFluency in EnglishWillingness to travel to sites across UK and IrelandProficient in Microsoft office tools

Preferred qualifications (nice to have):

End-to-end project management experience in warehouse/logistics environmentsPMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent project management certificationHigh-velocity, technology-driven environment experienceLarge-scale e-commerce/logistics project experienceData-driven analysis and financial modelling capabilitiesProficient in AutoCAD

Automation Manager

Location: Birmingham
Salary: £50,000-£55,000 per annum
Working pattern: Full-time, site-based - minimum 40 hours per week

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Automation Manager to join a growing and successful UK distribution and e-commerce business based in Birmingham.

The business operates a high-volume warehouse and fulfilment operation with a strong focus on product availability, next-day delivery and customer service. As the operation continues to grow, automation is becoming increasingly important to its future development.

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, you will take ownership of the performance, optimisation and continuous improvement of the site's AutoStore operation.

This is a hands-on role combining AutoStore expertise, operational leadership, people management, data analysis and process improvement, with the opportunity to become involved in wider automation projects as the business develops.

Key ResponsibilitiesTake ownership of the day-to-day performance, throughput and efficiency of the AutoStore operation.Manage and develop approximately 10 Team Leaders and Pickers/Operatives.Monitor operational KPIs and produce regular performance reporting for the Board and Management Team.Identify and implement improvements to productivity, processes, workflows and labour utilisation.Investigate picking errors, system issues and recurring operational problems using structured root-cause analysis.Diagnose and triage AutoStore issues, minimising downtime and operational disruption.Manage support issues with AutoStore and work with technology partners to deliver improvements.Train and support warehouse teams in AutoStore processes and best practice.Work closely with operational, IT and management teams to resolve issues and improve performance.Support future warehouse automation projects, including carton and pallet picking.Essential ExperiencePrevious AutoStore experience - essential.Experience managing Team Leaders, Pickers, Warehouse Operatives or similar.Experience within a high-volume warehouse, fulfilment or distribution environment.Strong understanding of operational KPIs and performance data.Proven problem-solving and root-cause analysis capability.Experience improving productivity, processes or operational efficiency.Strong communication and people-management skills.DesirableBlue Yonder experience.Kerridge K8 experience.IT, systems or technical background.WMS or warehouse systems experience.Experience with other warehouse automation technologies such as AMRs, ASRS, robotics or automated picking.Lean / Continuous Improvement / Six Sigma experience.

Your Responsibilities
