Senior Controls Engineer
Location: Remote (USA)
Headquarters: Cincinnati, Ohio
Travel: Approximately 40%
Key Responsibilities
*Lead controls engineering activities on large automation projects
*Develop functional specifications and define system operation requirements
*Design and program PLC-based control systems
*Create and configure HMI applications
*Review electrical drawings and communication architecture designs
*Integrate controls with conveyors, drives, scanners, scales, and other automation equipment
*Interface with WCS and WES software systems
*Perform system testing, commissioning, and startup activities
*Provide customer training and technical support during project handover
*Mentor junior engineers and support their development
*Manage project schedules, priorities, and technical deliverables
*Participate in customer meetings, design reviews, and project planning activities
*Support continuous improvement and development of engineering standards
Technical Requirements
Candidates should have strong experience with:
*Allen-Bradley PLCs and Studio 5000 / RSLogix
*PLC programming and industrial control systems
*HMI development
*Ethernet/IP and industrial communication networks
*Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
*Safety PLCs and machine safety systems
*Electrical troubleshooting
*Reading electrical schematics and controls drawings
*Integration of automated equipment and material handling systems
Experience with AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical is beneficial.

*7+ years of industrial controls engineering experience
*Experience leading projects and mentoring engineers

*Self-motivated individual capable of working independently
*Material handling, warehouse automation, or conveyor controls experience is highly desirable

*Remote position with travel to customer sites across North America

The Senior Electrical Hardware Design Engineer is responsible for designing motor control panels and associated systems required to control conveyor systems and/or related equipment used in the material handling industry (freight/parcel, baggage handling, warehouse distribution, manufacturing). This role is the controls hardware project lead and technical expert for assigned projects. They will be responsible for the design and creation of full and complete electrical drawing sets that control material equipment meeting customer specifications and Aegis standard design practices.
What you'll do
Confer with sales engineers, project managers, customers, and others to discuss and understand project specifications, scope and design requirements.
Prepare detailed drawing sets consisting of power feed calculations, 480-volt power schematics, 120-volt control schematics, I/O drawings, field device layouts, PLC layout/design, panel layout/design, and other drawings required to implement the project scope as per contract requirements and ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements.
Prepare specifications for purchase of materials and equipment.
Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
Inspect, audit and test completed motor control panels for overall sound construction and compliance with all design standards and specifications.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field7-10+ years of related industry experience in material handling designing systems for customers in the Freight and Parcel IndustryExpert level user of AutoCAD Electrical and related software to develop and create electrical control drawings and schematics.Experienced and knowledgeable of relevant electrical codes including UL508A, NFPA, and related electrical codes.Complex Problem Solving - Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.Troubleshooting - Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.Benefits:
