Position: Toolmaker

Proactive are currently recruiting for an experienced Toolmaker to join an established engineering and manufacturing business.

As a Toolmaker, you'll play a key role in ensuring tooling is produced and maintained to the required quality and timescales, supporting production and working closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to deliver effective tooling solutions.

Responsibilities:

Design and manufacture tooling using 2D and 3D CAD software and associated engineering systemsManufacture, assemble and test tooling in line with technical requirements and production deadlinesDesign and manufacture jigs, fixtures and gauges to support manufacturing processesMaintain, repair and modify production tooling to ensure continued manufacturing capabilityWork closely with engineering and production teams to ensure tooling is fit for purpose and meets operational requirementsPlan and coordinate tooling maintenance activities alongside relevant manufacturing teamsRespond to unplanned tooling repairs and production requirements where requiredOperate Toolroom machinery and equipment, including Wire EDM, CNC and conventional/manual machining equipmentWork collaboratively with other Toolmakers to complete machining, tooling and repair requirementsManage tooling manufacture and workload priorities in conjunction with the Toolroom management teamSupport the development and improvement of existing and new toolingTrack tooling modifications and identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability and efficiencyCarry out part and tooling measurements to support tooling development and engineering decisionsRecord relevant production information, work completed, quantities and machine/set-up times using appropriate systemsWork closely with engineering and manufacturing teams during the development, testing and introduction of new toolingSupport the transition of new tooling into production and help resolve any issues identified during trials

Skills:

Proven experience working as a Toolmaker within an engineering or manufacturing environmentStrong practical toolmaking and machining skillsExperience manufacturing, maintaining and repairing production toolingAbility to interpret engineering drawings and technical informationExperience using 2D/3D CAD software for tooling or engineering applicationsExperience with Wire EDM, CNC and/or conventional machining equipmentStrong understanding of tooling manufacture, testing, modification and maintenanceExperience working with jigs, fixtures and gauges would be advantageousGood measurement and inspection skills with the ability to use data to support engineering decisions
