We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join a leading engineering and automation business delivering complex projects across infrastructure, logistics, transportation, and industrial sectors.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the commercial management of large-scale engineering projects, ensuring effective contract administration, cost control, risk management, and financial performance throughout the project life cycle.
The successful candidate will work closely with project teams, customers, subcontractors, and key stakeholders to support the successful delivery of high-value projects while protecting the commercial interests of the business.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the commercial management of complex engineering projects, ensuring effective cost control and risk mitigation.
Administer and manage contracts with customers and subcontractors, ensuring contractual obligations are met and commercial risks are appropriately managed.
Monitor project financial performance through forecasting, cost reporting, cash flow management, applications for payment, and billing plans.
Manage change control processes, including the assessment, pricing, and negotiation of variations and compensation events.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
Support project delivery teams by providing commercial advice and guidance throughout the project life cycle.
Analyse project programmes and identify commercial implications of delays, disruptions, and changes in scope.
Drive best practice commercial management across projects and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Support the development and mentoring of junior commercial team members.
Ensure project objectives are achieved whilst maintaining compliance with contractual and business requirements.
Requirements
Proven experience in a Commercial Manager position within engineering, construction, infrastructure, automation, or related sectors.
Experience managing complex projects with annual revenues exceeding £10 million.
Strong knowledge of contract forms such as NEC3, NEC4, MF/1, or similar engineering and construction contracts.
Demonstrated experience in contract administration, commercial risk management, and cost control.
Proven ability to manage variations, compensation events, and change control processes.
Strong understanding of project scheduling and delay analysis.
Experience managing supplier and subcontractor relationships both pre- and post-contract award.
Excellent negotiation, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
Highly organised with the ability to prioritise workload in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to lead, influence, and drive project teams to deliver against programme milestones and commercial objectives.
Desirable
Experience delivering projects within airport, transportation, logistics, or complex infrastructure environments.
Professional membership with RICS, CIOB, ACostE, or equivalent professional body.
Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering project teams.

This position is well-suited to a strong, self-driven and highly organised commercial professional who enjoys working in complex, technical environments and is motivated by seeing projects through to successful completion.

This position sits within the Project Execution team and reports to the Commercial Group Leader. You will provide professional contract management, procurement, cost control and commercial administration to support the successful delivery of complex automation projects within dynamic airport and parcel environments.

Responsibilities:Take accountability for the commercial management of complex projects, ensuring projects are cost and change controlled and protected from commercial risk.Manage contracts both upstream with customers and downstream with subcontractors.Maintain financial control through forecasting, cash-flow management, cost control, applications for payment and billing plans.Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.Manage the change process, including analysis and understanding of scope and the quantification of compensation events.Support the development of commercial management best practice and mentor members of the commercial team.Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams, taking ownership and accountability for the commercial success of projects.Requirements:Commercial management experience within complex engineering projects, ideally involving airport projects.Ideally, experience working on Heathrow projects.Strong knowledge of different forms of contract, such as NEC3, NEC4 and MF/1.Experience managing complex engineering projects generating revenue of £10m+ per annum.Strong understanding of change management, including estimating compensation events for time and cost.Good understanding of project programmes and schedule delay analysis.Experience managing suppliers and subcontractors, both pre- and post-contract.Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills within a fast-moving environment.Strong negotiation, diplomacy and conflict-resolution skills.Ability to influence and drive stakeholders to work towards project dates and programmes.Membership of a professional body such as RICS, CIOB or ACostE is preferred.Reasons why you should apply:Hybrid opportunity based at Heathrow.Work on complex, high-value engineering and automation projects within a challenging technical environment.Opportunity to take ownership of the commercial success of major projects.Excellent opportunity for career progression and professional development.How to Apply:
