We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join a leading engineering and automation business delivering complex projects across infrastructure, logistics, transportation, and industrial sectors.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the commercial management of large-scale engineering projects, ensuring effective contract administration, cost control, risk management, and financial performance throughout the project life cycle.
The successful candidate will work closely with project teams, customers, subcontractors, and key stakeholders to support the successful delivery of high-value projects while protecting the commercial interests of the business.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the commercial management of complex engineering projects, ensuring effective cost control and risk mitigation.
Administer and manage contracts with customers and subcontractors, ensuring contractual obligations are met and commercial risks are appropriately managed.
Monitor project financial performance through forecasting, cost reporting, cash flow management, applications for payment, and billing plans.
Manage change control processes, including the assessment, pricing, and negotiation of variations and compensation events.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
Support project delivery teams by providing commercial advice and guidance throughout the project life cycle.
Analyse project programmes and identify commercial implications of delays, disruptions, and changes in scope.
Drive best practice commercial management across projects and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Support the development and mentoring of junior commercial team members.
Ensure project objectives are achieved whilst maintaining compliance with contractual and business requirements.
Requirements
Proven experience in a Commercial Manager position within engineering, construction, infrastructure, automation, or related sectors.
Experience managing complex projects with annual revenues exceeding £10 million.
Strong knowledge of contract forms such as NEC3, NEC4, MF/1, or similar engineering and construction contracts.
Demonstrated experience in contract administration, commercial risk management, and cost control.
Proven ability to manage variations, compensation events, and change control processes.
Strong understanding of project scheduling and delay analysis.
Experience managing supplier and subcontractor relationships both pre- and post-contract award.
Excellent negotiation, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
Highly organised with the ability to prioritise workload in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to lead, influence, and drive project teams to deliver against programme milestones and commercial objectives.
Desirable
Experience delivering projects within airport, transportation, logistics, or complex infrastructure environments.
Professional membership with RICS, CIOB, ACostE, or equivalent professional body.
Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering project teams.
