Our client is a global leader in automated material handling and airport automation, designing, engineering, manufacturing and servicing complex systems across airports, manufacturing and logistics environments.
Due to continued growth within their Airport Baggage Handling engineering division, they are seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join their team.
This opportunity would suit a licensed Structural/Civil Professional Engineer with experience designing structural steel and support systems who is looking to work on complex, large-scale material handling and airport automation projects.
The RoleReporting to the Engineering Program Manager and working closely with Senior Structural and Project Engineers, you will be responsible for the structural design and detailing of support systems for complex conveyor and baggage handling projects.
You will work across platforms, header steel, hanger supports, floor supports and other conveyor support structures, with a focus on material optimisation, weight reduction, structural integrity and manufacturing cost.
The position will also provide exposure to broader engineering responsibilities including system layouts, structural design, manufacturing support and field engineering.
ResponsibilitiesDesign and detail structural steel and support systems for conveyor and automated material handling equipment.
Develop platforms, header steel, hanger supports, floor supports and other structural components.
Perform structural calculations both manually and using engineering design software.
Prepare structural calculation packages and engineering documentation for PE approval and stamping.
Provide PE stamping of drawings and calculations across applicable states.
Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics and engineering documentation.
Work closely with Mechanical Engineers, Project Engineers and Designers to develop integrated system and structural designs.
Optimise structural designs to reduce material usage, manufacturing costs and loads imposed on building structures.
Review and check structural designs and detailing against applicable engineering codes and project requirements.
Investigate structural issues and equipment failures and recommend appropriate design modifications.
Support manufacturing, fabrication, installation and field engineering activities.
Evaluate alternative structural designs and engineering methods to improve performance and constructability.
Specify structural components and modifications to ensure compliance with engineering and performance requirements.
RequirementsBachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural Engineering focus, or equivalent relevant engineering experience.
Licensed/Registered Civil or Structural Professional Engineer (PE) across multiple US states.
Experience designing structural steel and support systems for industrial equipment, material handling or automation projects.
Experience preparing structural calculations and engineering packages for PE stamping.
Strong understanding of structural engineering principles, applicable codes and engineering standards.
Experience with structural design software such as STAAD.
Proficiency with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor or similar engineering design software.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and technical specifications.
Strong analytical, critical-thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
Ability to manage multiple engineering priorities and projects simultaneously.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred ExperienceStructural engineering experience within Baggage Handling Systems (BHS), Material Handling or industrial automation.
Conveyor support structure design.

Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
