They have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team. This position is well-suited to a creative and hands-on engineer who enjoys solving complex mechanical challenges, collaborating across multiple disciplines, and contributing throughout the entire product development life cycle.

This position is based within the Engineering department and reports to the Engineering Manager. You will support the design, development, and implementation of conveyor and material handling systems while collaborating closely with manufacturing, operations, and project teams to deliver innovative automation solutions.

Responsibilities:

Design and develop conveyor and material handling equipment using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar CAD software.Create engineering drawings, layouts, technical documentation, and manufacturing packages.Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and production routings.Support new product development projects from concept through implementation.Perform engineering calculations, equipment sizing, and component selection.Collaborate with manufacturing, suppliers, and internal teams to troubleshoot and improve designs.Provide technical support for production activities, field installations, and product improvements.Assist with testing procedures, engineering documentation, and product validation activities.

Requirements:

Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.5+ years of design engineering experience.Proficiency with SolidWorks (preferred), AutoCAD, or similar 3D CAD software.Strong understanding of mechanical systems, manufacturing processes, and engineering fundamentals.Experience creating engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.Familiarity with conveyor systems, warehouse automation, or material handling equipment is advantageous.Basic knowledge of electrical controls and automation systems preferred.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work collaboratively within fast-paced cross-functional teams.

§ 20+ years' experience in an applicable engineering field, 5-10+ years in a leadership role

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret mechanical/electrical schematics and customer specifications. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Excellent math skills are required. Individuals in this position must be able to perform engineering calculations employing algebra, geometry, and trigonometry as required.


COMPUTER SKILLS:

· Proficient with 3D CAD Software, SolidWorks, or 3DInventor

· Proficient with 2D AutoCAD

· Proficient in Microsoft Office products, especially Excel and Outlook


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand walk and sit. Employee spends time on shop floor, which could be significant portions of the day at times and require lifting up to 50 lbs. This role also requires spending time sitting in front of a computer.


TRAVEL:

Typically 15% or less


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee works in the office but does have frequent interaction with personnel on the shop floor. Typical workdays are split between the two environments but can sometimes be skewed heavily towards one or the other depending on work content at any given time. The employee may also be required to travel occasionally to work in customers' plants or at suppliers. In plants, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is mixed but does not require hearing protection in most areas. This position is on site in Port Clinton, OH.

What You'll Do
Design welding fixtures, tooling, and robotic cell layouts for automated robotic welding systems.
Create build-to-print part and assembly drawings, mechanical BOMs, and layouts in SolidWorks, applying GD&T as needed.
Perform structural validation using SolidWorks Simulation (FEA) to support design decisions.
Design and integrate pneumatic and low-voltage electrical subsystems within mechanical assemblies.
Build and validate designs at our manufacturing facility by hands-on prototyping.
Assist in manufacturing through machine shop work and assembly as needed
Support builds, kitting, and installations, resolving mechanical issues as systems are deployed.
Implement engineering change requests (ECRs) driven by build and field feedback.
Partner with manufacturing and supply chain to reduce BOM cost, improve availability, and standardize parts.
Capture lessons learned and roll improvements into standards, libraries, and future designs.
Who You Are

Bachelors degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or equivalent
2-6+ years of experience in mechanical design for automation or robotic systems, ideally in robotic welding environments.
Experienced with fixture design, robotic cell layouts, and production automation hardware.
Strong user of SolidWorks, including FEA, with the ability to interpret and apply results pragmatically.
Comfortable producing manufacturing-ready engineering drawings
Familiar with pneumatic systems, electrical interfaces, and mechanical integration points.
Knowledgeable in machine safety as it applies to mechanical design, risk reduction, and designing for safe operation and maintenance.
Experienced in working with PDM/PLM systems and supporting designs through change.
Hands-on and curious about how designs translate to the shop floor.
Thinks in terms of repeatability, deployment efficiency, and operational scale.
Seeks feedback from internal and external customers, and uses it to drive continuous improvement.
Communicates clearly, works well across disciplines, and values shared ownership.

Overview

An established engineering manufacturer is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join its Engineering Department. Reporting to the Electrical Engineering & Automation Team Leader, you will be responsible for the design and development of electrical hardware and control systems for special-purpose industrial machinery. This role offers hands-on involvement across the full project lifecycle-from concept and detailed design through to manufacture, testing, and support.

Key Responsibilities

Conceptual and detailed electrical design of industrial machineryDesign of control systems including variable speed drives, PLCs, and fieldbus systemsConverting written specifications into full electrical designs, including schematic drawings and bills of materialsDesigning systems for manufacture and assemblyLiaising with suppliers on bought-out components and working closely with internal departmentsDeveloping test plans and commissioning proceduresLeading or supporting development and customer projects to agreed timescales and budgetsProviding technical support to sales, service, and production teams

Essential:
