Our client is a global leader in automated material handling and industrial automation, designing, engineering, manufacturing and servicing advanced systems across airport, manufacturing and logistics environments.

Their technology portfolio includes complex conveyor systems, automated material handling equipment, robotics and integrated controls. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design / CAD Supervisor to join their engineering team in Novi, Michigan.

This opportunity would suit an experienced Mechanical Design or CAD leader with a strong background in material handling, automation or industrial equipment who wants to lead an engineering design team while driving CAD standards, design automation and continuous improvement.

The Role

Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Program Manager, you will lead a core team of 3-8 Mechanical Engineers responsible for delivering mechanical drawings and equipment designs across multiple automation projects.

You will take ownership of engineering resources, schedules, budgets and design deliverables while maintaining tight control of the CAD environment, including drawing standards, revision control, engineering changes and design processes.

Working closely with Project Engineers and other engineering disciplines, you will play a key role in improving design quality, standardisation and engineering efficiency across the department.

Responsibilities

Lead, manage and develop a team of 3-8 Mechanical Engineers.

Manage engineering resource allocation and utilisation across multiple projects.

Oversee mechanical drawings and equipment designs for automated material handling systems.

Ensure design deliverables meet project schedules, technical specifications and quality standards.

Develop and maintain departmental CAD standards, standard drawings, blocks, icons and engineering tools.

Manage CAD database integrity, revision control and engineering change processes.

Develop and maintain engineering procedures, workflows and design checklists.

Drive standardisation and consistency across engineering deliverables.

Develop tools and processes to improve engineering productivity and design efficiency.

Work closely with Project Engineers, other departments, manufacturing facilities, vendors and suppliers.

Support personnel development, training and technical progression within the engineering team.

Drive innovation and the adoption of new engineering technologies, components and design methodologies.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent technical qualification/industry experience.

Minimum 5 years' experience in lead mechanical design and/or estimating of industrial equipment.

Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience, ideally managing engineering teams across multiple projects.

Experience within material handling, conveyor systems, robotics, automation, unit handling or industrial equipment.

Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD, Inventor and Revit.

Strong understanding of mechanical design, engineering drawings and CAD standards.

Experience managing engineering resources, workloads, schedules and deliverables.

Strong customer, supplier and cross-functional communication skills.

Experience with engineering data management, revision control and structured file management.

Limited project-related travel to customer sites, manufacturing facilities and vendors.

Preferred Technical Experience

Experience developing AutoLISP routines and custom macros to improve design automation and productivity.

Working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor iLogic for rule-based engineering and design automation.

Experience using Autodesk Vault for engineering data management, collaboration and revision control.

Strong understanding of file structures, naming conventions and version-control processes.

Understanding of engineering data flow from conceptual design through engineering release.

Experience integrating engineering data with MRP/ERP platforms such as SAP.

Experience developing engineering standards, templates, tools and automated design processes.

This position is based within the Project Management department and reports to the Project Management Lead / Head of Projects. You will manage the complete lifecycle of international robotic automation projects, ensuring successful execution, customer satisfaction, and delivery within agreed scope, budget, and timelines. You will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage stakeholders, and drive continuous improvement across project processes.


Responsibilities:
* Manage and coordinate national and international robotic automation projects from initiation through to final acceptance, following established project methodologies.

* Develop detailed project plans, define milestones, allocate resources, and monitor progress to ensure successful delivery.

* Manage budgets, risks, scope changes, stakeholder expectations, and project reporting while maintaining high-quality standards.

* Organise project kick-offs, lead meetings, and ensure clear communication between internal teams, customers, and external partners.

* Monitor project performance, identify potential delays or risks, and implement proactive solutions.


Requirements:
* Minimum 5 years' experience as a Project Manager, ideally within intralogistics, automation, engineering, or another complex technical industry.

* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with a hands-on approach.

* Experience managing multidisciplinary projects with responsibility for timelines, budgets, and delivery.

* Fluent in Dutch and English; French and/or German is highly advantageous.

* Knowledge of project management methodologies such as PRINCE2 or PMBOK is beneficial.

* Willingness to travel internationally approximately 20% of the time.

* Independent, organised, and able to take ownership of projects and drive results.

Design and develop conveyor and material handling equipment using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar CAD software.Create engineering drawings, layouts, technical documentation, and manufacturing packages.Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and production routings.Support new product development projects from concept through implementation.Perform engineering calculations, equipment sizing, and component selection.Collaborate with manufacturing, suppliers, and internal teams to troubleshoot and improve designs.Provide technical support for production activities, field installations, and product improvements.Assist with testing procedures, engineering documentation, and product validation activities.

Requirements:
