About the role
Our client is seeking qualified Electrical Engineers to work on a variety of electrical and mechanical engineering and automated equipment. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the productivity and output of cargo and loading equipment by performing maintenance duties in compliance with health and safety regulations, quality standards, and team working practices.
This is a 4 on 4 off shift pattern across days and nights

The day to day
Carry out planned preventative maintenance on all equipmentRespond quickly to electrical breakdown situations and carry out effective corrective maintenance regimes.Troubleshoot and rectify electrical faults in a range of field devices, including motor controllers, sensors, and electrical machinery.Log all work carried outDemonstrate problem-solving skills and carry out effective root cause analysis to identify and resolve issues.Maintain a professional manner at all timesEnsure that contract service level agreements (SLAs) are achievedProvide cover for other service technicians and shifts when necessary.Adhere to company legislative Health & Safety regulations and policies at all times, ensuring a safe and tidy working environment.Good interpersonal skills and able to communicate precisely both in writing and verbally at all levels.Computer literate and able to use CMMS systems.Ability to read and interpret drawings.Ability to plan and prioritise workload, work on own initiative as well as a member of a team, and work overtime as required.
What You'll Need
Qualifications
Time served Electrical apprenticeship or equivalent.City & Guilds/NVQ level 3 or above in electrical discipline.Previous experience within an FMCG manufacturing, automated warehousing environment or industrial environment (desirable).Desirable: Multiskilled, experience in using PLCs and diagnostics, experience in training/coaching.This is a permanent position and will require a Full Airside Pass for Heathrow Airport, the below will need to be completed to be allowed access to work at Heathrow.

THE ENGINEERING CHALLENGE
Work in a hands-on manner to actively monitor, fault find and repair systems in order to provide a high level of equipment availability to internal customers.Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections on assigned automation, robotics and control panels. Perform troubleshooting of assigned out of service equipment and correct issues, act as an escalation point for lower level technicians, and escalate to leadership and/or vendors as needed for additional troubleshooting.Document all work in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and ticketing systems as appropriate.Mentor all maintenance personnel in developing appropriate skill sets and knowledge of equipment specializing in automation, controls and robotics.Lead root cause analysis of major downtime events.Act as a network resource for technical issues and lead network-wide root cause analysis.Develop maintenance personnel knowledge on intermediate to advanced automation, controls and robotics.Partner with engineering on commissioning of new controls systems.Audit vendor work to provide feedback to leadership on quality of work and SLA performance.Write and/or modify PMs to standardize across the network and increase effectiveness.What You'll Bring
Essential Experience
Electrical, Mechatronics or mechanical engineering qualifications (minimum ONC Electrical Engineering/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent)Experienced in Automation, Mechanical, or Maintenance Engineering, ideally within a manufacturing or production environment such as FMCG.Proficient in PLC-controlled systems and automated processes, including programming, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and related control systems.Comfortable interpreting technical manuals, engineering drawings, and schematics to support diagnostics and solutions.Skilled in both reactive and preventative maintenance, with a track record of handling second-line escalations and completing CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) tasks.Adept in material handling systems, with exposure to flow analysis, capacity visualization, and process monitoring.A confident communicator and mentor, capable of coaching junior engineers and stepping in as proxy for senior automation engineers when required.Experienced in leading Root Cause Analysis, supporting CI (Continuous Improvement) initiatives, and familiar with DIQ and WMS systems.

Respond to system breakdowns, carry out shutdown maintenance, and perform regular preventative maintenance to minimise downtime and ensure operational continuity
Complete all assigned work through the site's Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), updating with accurate data, fault comments, and spare part usage
Collaborate with internal and external teams, including global engineering and helpdesk support, to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex electrical and system-related faults
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by recommending system enhancements and supporting implementation of upgrades
Support and mentor other technicians and apprentices, promoting a high-performance, safety-first culture on-site
Maintain compliance with AS3000 wiring standards and all relevant WHS, site-specific, and electrical safety procedures
Ensure equipment repairs and installations meet OEM standards, and that critical spares are monitored and correctly stocked
What You'll Bring:
Current Electrical Licence (NSW or transferable from another state - essential)
Minimum 2 years' experience in automated environments, ideally in warehousing, logistics, manufacturing or distribution centres
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills in mechatronic systems, including PLCs, VSDs, sensors, and relay logic
Solid understanding of SCADA and automated control systems
Ability to read, interpret, and work from technical electrical schematics and manuals
Hands-on experience with electrical maintenance, installations, upgrades, and safety isolations
Familiarity with CMMS systems and comfortable using digital tools for maintenance tracking and documentation
Effective communication and customer service skills - ability to liaise with clients, suppliers, and site stakeholders professionally
Team-oriented, adaptable, and proactive with a passion for problem-solving
Post-trade qualifications in pneumatics, hydraulics, or automation will be highly regarded
