We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Engineer to join a busy automated distribution and materials handling operation. This role involves carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, fault finding, and continuous improvement activities on a wide range of automated equipment to ensure maximum system availability and reliability.
Key ResponsibilitiesCarry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and servicing of automated materials handling equipment.Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and PLC-related faults.Prioritise faults to minimise downtime and maintain operational performance.Perform scheduled repairs in line with manufacturer recommendations and industry best practices.Maintain conveyor systems, automated machinery, and associated equipment to ensure continuous product flow.Accurately complete maintenance records, reports, and documentation.Ensure spare parts are maintained at appropriate stock levels.Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability, efficiency, and performance.Work closely with operations to minimise disruption and maximise productivity.Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with Health & Safety regulations and site procedures.Maintain high standards of workmanship and quality at all times.RequirementsONC, NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (electrical bias preferred).Completed engineering apprenticeship is advantageous.Experience maintaining automated machinery, conveyor systems, or materials handling equipment.Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.Basic understanding of PLC-controlled systems and automated controls.Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.Experience working to planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules.Comfortable working at height where required.Good IT skills for completing maintenance records and reports.A logical and methodical approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving.Ideal CandidateMulti-skilled engineer with strong electrical and mechanical maintenance experience.Able to work effectively in a fast-paced automated manufacturing, warehouse, or distribution environment.Proactive, safety-focused, and committed to continuous improvement.Strong communicator with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.Flexible and reliable, with a commitment to maintaining high equipment availability.

We are looking for an experienced Shift Maintenance Manager to lead a team of maintenance engineers within a highly automated distribution and materials handling environment. You will be responsible for managing planned and reactive maintenance activities, ensuring maximum equipment availability, driving continuous improvement, and maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and operational performance.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead, motivate, and manage a team of maintenance engineers across a 4 on, 4 off shift pattern.Plan, coordinate, and oversee preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities.Ensure maintenance schedules are executed effectively to maximise equipment reliability and minimise downtime.Diagnose and support the resolution of complex mechanical, electrical, electronic, PLC, and control system faults.Manage and optimise the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), ensuring accurate maintenance records and reporting.Monitor equipment performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives to improve reliability and efficiency.Evaluate maintenance priorities, assess risks associated with overdue maintenance, and adjust maintenance plans accordingly.Manage maintenance budgets, control maintenance costs, and ensure efficient use of resources.Oversee spare parts inventory and ensure critical components are available for planned and unplanned maintenance.Ensure engineers have the appropriate tools, PPE, and resources to perform their duties safely.Produce regular maintenance performance reports and KPI analysis.Recruit, train, mentor, and develop maintenance personnel, conducting annual performance reviews and succession planning.Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, quality standards, and site procedures at all times.Build positive working relationships with operational teams and other stakeholders to support site performance.RequirementsEngineering qualification (ONC, HNC, NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.Strong experience within automated materials handling, distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or FMCG environments.Proven experience leading or supervising engineering maintenance teams.Strong knowledge of conveyor systems, automated equipment, and PLC-controlled machinery.Experience managing preventative maintenance (PPM) programmes using a CMMS.Excellent mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation and safe systems of work.First Aid qualification is advantageous.Comfortable working at height where required.Strong IT skills with experience producing maintenance reports and analysing performance data.Ideal CandidateAn experienced engineering leader with excellent people management skills.Highly organised, capable of planning maintenance activities while responding effectively to operational priorities.Strong problem solver with a proactive approach to improving equipment reliability and site performance.Commercially aware with experience managing maintenance costs, resources, and continuous improvement initiatives.A confident communicator who can build strong relationships across engineering and operations teams.
