Quality Engineer Required St. Neots

The Quality Engineer will play a key role in supporting and developing the site's quality function, driving continuous improvement across manufacturing processes, products and quality standards. The role will be responsible for maintaining robust quality assurance and control systems while ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards and ISO requirements.

Working closely with Engineering, Production, Suppliers and Customers, the Quality Engineer will provide technical quality support throughout the manufacturing lifecycle, from design and prototype through to production and final product delivery.

The role will involve developing, implementing and maintaining quality assurance and control processes, defining inspection and testing requirements, analysing production and quality data, and identifying opportunities to improve product quality, reliability and manufacturing performance.

The Quality Engineer will also contribute to engineering and product development activities by providing quality input during design reviews, supporting root-cause investigations and ensuring appropriate quality requirements are incorporated into manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

Act as the primary point of contact for the production team regarding product quality issues, including mechanical fit, manufacturing processes and electronic component specifications.Investigate product and process quality issues, implementing effective containment actions and ensuring robust, long-term corrective and preventive actions are established.Conduct root-cause analysis and develop appropriate corrective action plans to prevent recurrence of quality issues.Prepare regular quality reports and provide accurate updates to the Quality Manager and relevant internal stakeholders.Proactively analyse production and quality data to identify trends, recurring issues and opportunities for improvement.Develop, monitor and report key quality performance indicators and recommend corrective actions where required.Provide technical quality support and guidance to Engineering and Production teams to ensure products are manufactured in accordance with defined specifications and quality standards.Communicate and coordinate quality-related information with internal departments, customers, suppliers and other external stakeholders.Complete First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) in accordance with customer and industry requirements.Liaise with suppliers to investigate quality concerns and ensure purchased components, materials and products meet required specifications and quality standards.Manage customer, supplier and internal quality concerns through structured 8D corrective action processes.Support and participate in internal and external quality audits, ensuring findings are appropriately addressed and corrective actions implemented.Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing processes, quality systems and operational performance.Participate in engineering design reviews, providing quality requirements, risk considerations and recommendations to support robust product development.Support the collection, analysis and interpretation of quality and manufacturing data to identify improvement opportunities.Ensure quality processes and documentation remain accurate, controlled and aligned with applicable standards and customer requirements.Promote a strong quality culture across the organisation, encouraging accountability, continuous improvement and effective problem solving.Experience within Aerospace, Medical, Automotive or other highly regulated manufacturing environments would be advantageous.Demonstrate a commitment to professional standards and organisational values, including integrity, innovation, accountability and teamwork.

Qualifications & Experience

HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Quality, Electronics, Manufacturing or a related discipline.Minimum of 5 years' relevant experience within an electronics manufacturing environment - essential.Strong understanding of manufacturing quality processes and process development methodologies.Practical knowledge of PFMEA, Control Plans, PPAP and related quality planning tools - essential.Experience with 8D, root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive action methodologies.Experience conducting or supporting internal and external audits.Experience completing First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs).Strong understanding of quality assurance and quality control principles.Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings and manufacturing requirements.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify trends and implement sustainable solutions.Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.Strong IT skills, including confidence working with data, reporting systems and Microsoft Office applications - essential.Experience working within an ISO-certified manufacturing environment would be advantageous.Experience within Aerospace, Medical or Automotive manufacturing would be highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

Programme & Project Management

Integrated Project Team Leadership

Lead and coordinate cross-functional Integrated Project Teams to achieve programme objectives.Chair programme meetings and ensure actions are clearly assigned, tracked and completed.Establish clear priorities, responsibilities and accountability across the programme team.Identify and resolve project team issues and conflicts, escalating where appropriate.Estimate programme resource requirements and negotiate support with functional managers.Manage project dependencies and maintain focus on critical-path activities.Agree and maintain OEM submittal requirements and delivery dates.Ensure project team members understand programme expectations, priorities and commitments.Oversee BFE activities, including the timely placement and receipt of BFE orders required for CDR, testing and production.Ensure IFE test equipment is correctly configured, loaded with the required software level and fully functional for system testing.

Programme Performance & Milestones

Act as the primary programme focal point for key technical and programme milestones, including ITCM, PDR, CDR, FAI and other technical reviews.Coordinate and manage FAI open items through to successful closure.Monitor programme performance against contractual requirements, including:On-time deliveryCost and budgetQualityWeightCustomer and OEM satisfactionMonitor OEM ratings and customer feedback.Establish appropriate programme reporting requirements and analyse performance data.Identify areas of underperformance and coordinate corrective actions with IPT members and key stakeholders.

Our client is currently experienced Quality Inspector on a permanent basis to ensure products are inspected and released in accordance with customer requirements, engineering drawings, specifications and relevant quality standards.

The successful candidate will support teams across the business to ensure products are manufactured and assembled in conformance with the relevant design data and specifications. You will also be responsible for completing inspection and release documentation and ensuring only conforming products are approved for release.

Key Responsibilities

Inspection and Quality Control

Inspect and approve products against engineering drawings, customer specifications and supporting documentation.Use a range of measuring and inspection equipment, including verniers, callipers, micrometers, gauges and rulers.Interpret and work confidently from detailed engineering drawings and specifications.Identify and record non-conforming products clearly and accurately, supporting the Quality Assurance Engineers with investigation and resolution.Ensure inspection records and regulatory documentation are completed accurately.Release conforming products using the correct documentation and procedures.Provide quality and product conformance support to departments across the business.Work independently or as part of a wider inspection and quality team to make effective use of inspection resources.

First Article Inspection

Support and complete First Article Inspection (FAI) activities.Understand and apply the FAIR process in accordance with AS9102.Review and prepare First Article Inspection Reports where required.Ensure inspection results are accurately recorded and traceable to the relevant engineering drawings and specifications.

Auditing and Compliance

Conduct internal audits within relevant departments.Support compliance with AS9100 and AS9102 requirements.Maintain a strong understanding of quality procedures and ensure company standards are consistently followed.Support the implementation and maintenance of high standards of quality, housekeeping and compliance within the department.

Essential Experience and Skills

Previous experience working within a manufacturing environment, ideally within a quality inspection or quality control position.Proven experience using inspection and measurement equipment such as callipers, micrometers and gauges.Strong ability to read and interpret technical engineering drawings.Previous experience with First Article Inspection (FAI) processes.Understanding of AS9102 FAIR requirements.Experience inspecting products against customer drawings and supporting documentation.Experience conducting internal or departmental audits.Good working knowledge of quality procedures and documentation.Experience working to agreed quality standards and departmental KPIs.Previous experience working in a Quality Control or Quality Inspection position.Good organisational and time management skills.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work effectively with colleagues across different departments.Good computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Desirable Experience

Experience within an aerospace or highly regulated manufacturing environment.Knowledge of AS9100 quality management systems.Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing quality standards and processes.Experience preparing or reviewing First Article Inspection Reports.Previous experience with regulatory or controlled documentation.Experience of working within a team based quality environment.

High level of attention to detail and accuracy.Methodical and organised approach to inspection and documentation.Confident working independently and as part of a team.Strong commitment to quality and product conformity.Good communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with colleagues across the wider business.Proactive approach to identifying quality issues and supporting improvements.Ability to maintain high standards of housekeeping and workplace organisation.

Key Performance Measures

Performance will be measured against:

First Pass Yield and number of parts inspected.Accuracy and completion of inspection documentation.Compliance with AS9100 and AS9102 requirements.Departmental quality KPIs.Quality of non-conformance reporting.Audit performance and compliance.Adherence to company quality, health and safety and environmental procedures.
