The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Sales Engineer to join a growing Sales Engineering team, developing innovative warehouse automation solutions for customers across the UK and internationally.
Working closely with the Business Development Manager and wider project teams, you will play a key role in the pre-contract phase of major automation projects, translating customer requirements into commercially competitive, technically viable solutions.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Sales Engineer to take ownership of complex projects, contribute to sales success, and help shape the future of intelligent intralogistics.
Your Responsibilities
Analyse customer requirements, operational data, and business needs to develop suitable logistics solutions and business cases.
Lead technical and concept specifications throughout the tender process.
Develop innovative warehouse automation solutions using a range of automation equipment and preferred supplier technologies.
Create solutions that deliver strong customer value while remaining commercially competitive.
Manage the full bidding process for large projects, including planning, procurement, pricing, and internal acceptance with engineering and operations.
Present proposed technical solutions to customers, including pricing, products, system layouts, and operational functionality.
Prepare final proposal documentation and support contract submissions.
Manage the handover from the sales team to the project execution team.
Contribute to sales strategy, product development, and internal knowledge sharing.
Lead multiple projects and support the development and coaching of other Sales Engineers.
Drive continuous improvement through the development of tools, standard concepts, and training.
What We're Looking For
A degree or master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
Previous experience within the automated material handling, warehouse automation, or intralogistics industry.
Experience working in an international professional environment, preferably within a project-based organisation.
Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills.
Advanced Excel capability.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
A strong commercial mindset with the ability to develop competitive, customer-focused solutions.
The ability to build strong relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
Experience managing complex bids or technical sales projects.
A proactive, collaborative approach with the confidence to take ownership of projects.

About the Role


We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of advanced automated warehouse solutions across the UK and internationally. The role involves managing the full project lifecycle for large-scale automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) used in modern logistics and distribution environments.

The role is associated with our Birmingham office, however office attendance is flexible. Depending on project needs, the successful candidate may attend the office once a week, once a month, or as required, with the majority of time spent managing projects remotely or visiting customer sites.

This role will involve travel across the UK (approximately 50% of the time) and additional travel across Europe (approximately 20%) to support project delivery and customer engagement

Job Type: Permanent
Salary: Up to £75,000 (Negotiable) + 10% Bonus + £5,000 Car Allowance

Key Responsibilities

Manage the end-to-end delivery of automation projects, from planning through to final handover.Coordinate engineering, installation, commissioning, and customer teams throughout the project lifecycle.Develop and manage project plans, schedules, budgets, and resources.Act as the primary point of contact for customers and key stakeholders.Monitor project progress and proactively manage risks, issues, and changes.Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to agreed quality standards.Support site activities during installation and commissioning phases when required.

Requirements

Proven experience managing technical or engineering projects, ideally within automation, logistics, or industrial environments.Strong project planning, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.Experience managing cross-functional technical teams.Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex project environments.Willingness to travel to customer sites as required.

Desirable

Experience working with warehouse automation, robotics, or material handling systems.Experience with OSP or AutoStore automated warehouse systems (advantage but not essential).Formal project management certification (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP, or equivalent).Background in engineering, automation, or logistics technology.

The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping investment programmes, developing delivery strategies, and ensuring robust governance throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and develop a team responsible for delivering a rolling portfolio of capital projects.Support senior leadership in the successful delivery of the wider Capital Investment Programme.Oversee programme governance, project controls, and key delivery milestones.Develop and implement effective contract and delivery strategies, including NEC4 contract frameworks.Manage programme risks, reporting, budgeting, and stakeholder engagement activities.Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements and promote a culture of continuous improvement.Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.Provide strategic direction and support for long-term development initiatives.

Experience Required

Proven experience delivering major capital projects or programmes within infrastructure, transportation, utilities, aviation, construction, or similarly complex environments.Strong track record of managing large-scale development programmes from concept through to delivery.Extensive knowledge of project governance, programme controls, risk management, and strategic planning.Experience working with NEC4 contracts and relevant UK construction and development regulations.Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.Demonstrated leadership experience managing multidisciplinary professional teams.

Desirable Experience

Membership of, or working towards membership of, a relevant Chartered Professional Body.PRINCE2, APM, or equivalent project/programme management qualification.CSCS Card.CITB Site Safety Plus Certificate.Postgraduate qualification in Engineering, Architecture, Project Management, Business, or a related discipline.Understanding of business case development, financial modelling, and cost-benefit analysis.Experience preparing business cases and investment proposals focused on delivering measurable business benefits.
