Position: Toolroom Manager

Proactive are currently recruiting for a Toolroom Manager to join an established engineering and manufacturing business.

As a Toolroom Manager, you'll lead a skilled team of toolmakers and trainees, managing workloads, resources and production requirements while ensuring tooling is delivered to the required quality, cost and timescales.

Responsibilities:

Lead and manage the day-to-day activities of the Toolroom, including the development and support of skilled engineering personnelManage workloads, resources, deadlines and priorities to ensure customer and production requirements are achievedOversee the development and manufacture of new tooling from initial concept through to commissioningManage tooling development, modifications, repairs and ongoing maintenanceEnsure tooling and associated work meet required standards for quality, efficiency and on-time deliveryEstablish effective preventative and predictive maintenance programmes to maximise tooling availability and minimise downtimeManage labour and machine capacity to maximise efficiency and minimise lost production timeMonitor departmental performance against agreed targets, KPIs and operational objectivesIdentify opportunities to improve tooling processes, equipment, capacity and capabilityResearch and support the introduction of new toolmaking technologies, equipment and processesWork closely with manufacturing, production planning, sales and other departments to ensure tooling requirements are understood and deliveredMonitor tooling performance and investigate variations, quality issues and production problemsDrive a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork, collaboration and accountability within the Toolroom

Personal skills:

Proven experience within a Toolroom, Toolmaking or engineering management environmentStrong people management and leadership experience, particularly within a highly skilled technical teamExperience managing workloads, resources and competing priorities within a manufacturing environmentStrong understanding of tooling manufacture, development, repair and maintenanceExperience with progression press tooling would be advantageousGood knowledge of Toolroom equipment such as Wire EDM, grinding, milling and turningExperience managing projects and coordinating resources to achieve defined outcomesStrong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to analyse complex technical information and provide clear directionExperience working with highly skilled technical personnel and managing diverse teamsKnowledge or experience of 3D CAD/design software such as SolidWorks or similar would be advantageous
