The Client:
Our client is a well-established multinational engineering organisation with more than 50 years supporting Australias rail industry and a reputation for delivering highly complex rolling stock and rail infrastructure solutions.
With a significant Australian presence and an established Rail Division, the organisation has played a major role in delivering engineering solutions across some of Australia's most recognised passenger rail programs. Their expertise spans the full project lifecycle - from feasibility, system design and engineering through to manufacture, commissioning and long-term lifecycle support.
This is a rare opportunity to join a highly respected engineering business in a key leadership position that offers significant influence across engineering, project delivery, commercial strategy and future business growth, together with a genuine long-term pathway into executive leadership.
Your Responsibilities:
- Lead multidisciplinary Project Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering and Field Service teams across complex rail projects.
- Manage engineering delivery throughout the full project lifecycle - from feasibility, tendering and design through to manufacture, commissioning, customer handover and lifecycle support.
- Provide technical leadership across systems engineering, design assurance, engineering governance, localisation, compliance, safety and warranty activities.
- Lead major engineering reviews including SDR, PDR and CDR while ensuring quality, regulatory and safety compliance.
- Support manufacturing and factory engineering activities while driving engineering quality, operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- Manage engineering budgets, resources, project performance and cost control.
- Lead the engineering component of major tenders and bid submissions, including solution development, engineering methodologies, engineering cost reviews, procurement and engineering risk assessment.
- Present and defend engineering solutions with customers, government transport authorities, consortium partners and executive stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with Sales, Business Development and Executive Leadership to strengthen customer relationships and secure future projects.
- Mentor and develop engineering talent while building future leadership capability across the business.
About You:
You are a respected and personable engineering leader who combines strong technical capability with commercial awareness, strategic thinking and an emotionally intelligent leadership style.
You Bring:
- Approximately 15-20+ years engineering experience within Rail or another highly regulated, safety-critical industry such as Defence, Aerospace or Aviation.
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering or a related discipline.
- Project Management qualifications will be highly regarded.
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams delivering large-scale, complex engineering programs.
- Strong systems engineering capability with experience managing engineering governance, compliance and technical assurance.
- Experience supporting major tenders, engineering bid activities and customer-facing technical presentations.
- Strong commercial, financial and operational management capability.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence customers, executive leadership and technical teams.
- A collaborative, approachable leadership style with high emotional intelligence and a passion for mentoring and developing people.
- Experience working within a global or matrix organisation will be highly regarded.
