Operations ManagerJob Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced and driven Operations Manager to lead all manufacturing and operational activities within our production facility. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and profitable operation of the business, overseeing production, planning, quality, warehousing, maintenance and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering production targets whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality, health and safety and customer satisfaction. Working closely with Sales, Procurement and Design teams, the Operations Manager will ensure customer orders are manufactured and delivered on time, in full and to the required specification.

This role requires a strong manufacturing background, excellent leadership skills and experience of driving operational improvements within a fast-paced production environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesOperations ManagementLead the day-to-day operations of the manufacturing facility, ensuring production runs efficiently and safely.Develop and implement operational strategies to improve productivity, profitability and customer service.Ensure production schedules are achieved while maintaining flexibility to meet changing customer demands.Monitor operational performance using KPIs and implement corrective actions where required.Work closely with senior management to support business growth and strategic objectives.Production ManagementOversee all stages of manufacturing from raw materials through to finished products.Ensure production targets are achieved whilst maintaining quality and delivery performance.Optimise labour, machinery and resources to maximise efficiency.Monitor capacity planning and recommend investment in equipment or personnel where necessary.Support the introduction of new products and manufacturing processes.Health, Safety & CompliancePromote a strong health and safety culture throughout the business.Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.Lead accident investigations and implement corrective actions.Ensure manufacturing activities comply with applicable industry standards, regulatory requirements and quality management systems.Maintain a safe, clean and organised manufacturing environment.Quality ManagementEnsure all products are manufactured to customer specifications and applicable industry standards.Work closely with the Quality team to reduce defects and improve right-first-time performance.Investigate quality issues and implement root cause corrective actions.Drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout manufacturing processes.Support customer and third-party audits.Planning & Supply ChainWork with Planning and Procurement to ensure materials are available to meet production schedules.Monitor stock levels and inventory accuracy.Ensure effective communication between purchasing, production and warehouse teams.Support supplier performance reviews where operational issues arise.Warehouse & LogisticsOversee warehouse operations, ensuring safe storage and timely dispatch of finished products.Ensure deliveries are planned to meet customer requirements.Improve warehouse efficiency and inventory management.Financial & Commercial PerformanceManage operational budgets and control manufacturing costs.Monitor labour efficiency, material usage and waste reduction.Identify opportunities to improve profitability through operational improvements.Support annual budgeting and forecasting activities.Leadership & People ManagementLead, motivate and develop departmental managers and supervisors.Conduct performance reviews and support employee development plans.Promote teamwork, accountability and continuous improvement.Manage recruitment, training and succession planning within operations.Foster a positive culture focused on safety, quality and customer satisfaction.Continuous ImprovementIdentify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes and workflows.Lead Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement projects.Reduce waste, improve productivity and increase operational efficiency.Introduce best practice manufacturing techniques and performance measurement systems.Required ExperienceProven experience as an Operations Manager, Manufacturing Manager or Production Manager within a manufacturing environment.Strong leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary operational teams.Excellent understanding of manufacturing processes, production planning and supply chain operations.Experience managing KPIs, budgets and operational performance.Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation.Ability to analyse operational data and make informed business decisions.Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.Proficient in Microsoft Office and ERP/MRP systems.Experience within a manufacturing environment.Experience working within ISO 9001 accredited environments.Experience implementing operational improvement projects.BenefitsSalary of £50,000-£55,000 per annum, depending on experience.Monday to Thursday, 7:30am to 4:30pm, Friday 7:30am to 3:30pm.Opportunity to join a supportive and growing business with excellent long-term career prospects.

The Client:
Our client is the Australian subsidiary of an established international manufacturer (circa USD $100M turnover) specialising in retail shelving, pallet racking, storage systems and store fixture solutions supplied to leading retailers across global markets.

With over a decade of established operations in Australia and backed by extensive global manufacturing capability and more than 100 design engineers, the business partners with some of the worlds best-known retail brands, delivering high-quality shelving, racking and retail fit-out solutions across national rollout programs.

Due to continued growth, they are now seeking an experienced and proactive Operations & Project Delivery Manager to lead their Australian operations based in Melbourne. Reporting directly to the General Manager, this role will take ownership of warehouse operations, procurement, logistics, project delivery and customer satisfaction while driving continuous improvement across the business.

Your Responsibilities:
* Lead the day-to-day operations of the warehouse, logistics and project delivery functions.
* Oversee inventory management, receiving, dispatch, stock accuracy and warehouse workflow optimisation.
* Manage procurement activities and coordinate suppliers to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
* Coordinate freight providers and third-party logistics partners to maximise delivery performance and minimise costs.
* Act as the primary operational point of contact for clients throughout project delivery.
* Build strong relationships with customers through proactive communication and effective issue resolution.
* Manage projects from procurement and warehouse planning through to installation, commissioning and final client handover.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase operational efficiency, improve margins and reduce waste.
* Implement and maintain rigorous quality assurance processes to achieve 'Right First Time' project delivery.
* Ensure compliance with Australian OH&S legislation, site safety requirements and company quality standards.
* Monitor operational KPIs including delivery performance, inventory accuracy, customer satisfaction and cost control.
* Lead, mentor and support warehouse and operational staff while fostering a positive team culture.

About You:
You are a hands-on, commercially aware Operations & Project Delivery Manager who enjoys taking ownership and solving problems. You naturally build trust with customers while driving high operational standards and motivating your team to consistently deliver outstanding project outcomes.

You have:
* At least 5 years experience in an Operations Management role.
* Experience within retail fixtures, pallet racking, shelving, shopfitting, warehouse storage, procurement, project delivery or related industries.
* Strong understanding of warehouse operations, logistics and supply chain management.
* Experience delivering retail consolidation programs and multi-site rollout projects for major retailers such as Bunnings, Kmart or similar organisations will be highly regarded.
* Project Management experience or exposure managing operational project delivery.
* Strong procurement and supplier coordination experience.
* The ability to interpret technical drawings and warehouse layouts.
* Experience using ERP/WMS systems together with solid Microsoft Office skills.
* Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
* Strong commercial acumen with a focus on operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
* A hands-on leadership style with the ability to lead from the front.
* Current Australian Drivers Licence (White Card advantageous).
