Senior Project Manager

Location: Germany (30-40% of travel)

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the overarching planning and management of projects in the field of contract logistics and will keep an eye on costs and results at all times.You will lead interdisciplinary international teams of practitioners (f/m/d) and experts (f/m/d) from the fields of intralogistics, construction, IT, operations and external partners.You will take care of change request management and ensure the development and coordination of process documentation.You coordinate integration tests with the customer systems.You have overall responsibility for investment management, project controlling and risk management.

Requirements

You have successfully completed a technical or business degree or a comparable qualification, preferably with a focus on logistics.You have relevant project experience in a comparable position and know how to use relevant project management tools, ideally also the PRINCE2 methodology.You have relevant experience in logistical and operational processes and are also familiar with the implementation of warehouse management systems.You are confident in using MS Office and MS Project.You have a good command of written and spoken English & GermanYou are characterized by the willingness to travel on projects (2-3 days/week; 30-40% of the time).

About the Role

You are a trusted client advisor managing complex, high-value work with real autonomy. This role owns the full contract lifecycle, from RFIs and submittals through invoicing, and mentors the PMs coming up behind them.

Senior Project Manager - Baggage Handling Systems
A global leader in airport automation, specializing in baggage handling systems that support airports with reliable, efficient, and future-ready solutions. Their technology helps move baggage safely and efficiently through check-in, screening, sorting, make-up, transfer, and reclaim processes.

Position Summary
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading large-scale baggage handling system projects for airports across North America. This role provides end-to-end ownership of project delivery, including planning, contractual management, technical oversight, financial control, and customer relationship management, ensuring projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to required performance and quality standards.
Working within a fast-paced, matrixed organization, the Senior Project Manager leads cross-functional teams, manages customer expectations, and drives project-level decisions. On larger programs, this role may report to a Program Director and will act as a mentor to other project managers.

Overview
*Lead delivery of complex baggage handling system projects across North America.
*Provide strategic direction and governance for project execution in a multi-disciplinary and matrixed environment, coordinating cross-functional teams, subcontractors, and external partners.
*Ensure project performance aligns with technical specifications, contractual commitments, compliance standards, and long-term client objectives.
*Serve as a senior liaison between internal leadership, customers, and executive stakeholders to drive program success and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
*Provide full project leadership and accountability for profitability, risk management, performance, and stakeholder satisfaction across multiple concurrent baggage handling projects.
*Develop and manage project master schedules, milestones, resource plans, and critical-path activities; proactively re-plan to mitigate schedule risks.
*Lead contract administration, change order management, claims mitigation, and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
*Oversee project financials including forecasting, budgeting, margin protection, and monthly reporting to senior leadership.
*Act as the primary client escalation point; build trusted executive-level relationships and deliver regular project briefings, including executive summaries and health reports.
*Lead and mentor multidisciplinary project teams and less-experienced project managers; establish clear priorities, resolve conflicts, and promote effective cross-department collaboration.
*Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including lessons learned, process standardization, and adoption of best practices across project delivery.
*Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory requirements across project execution and subcontractor activities.

Qualifications / Requirements
*7+ years of progressive project management experience, with demonstrated success leading high-value, complex projects or portfolios.
*Proven experience managing large-scale baggage handling or airport automation projects.
*Strong track record managing subcontractors, consultants, multidisciplinary teams, and complex stakeholder groups in large project environments.
*Demonstrated ability to manage contracts, change control, claims, and commercial risks.
*Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder-management skills; comfortable presenting to executive-level audiences.
*Ability and willingness to travel up to 50%, primarily during weekdays.

Preferred
*Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Construction Management, or a related technical field; advanced degree a plus.
*Professional certifications such as PMP, PgMP, P.E., or LEED accreditation.
*Deep experience with baggage handling systems, airport automation, or integrated control systems.
*Experience working within global organizations and managing cross-border project complexities.
