Maintenance Engineer- Electrical Bias
Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer
We are looking for a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join a fully automated warehouse environment, supporting the maintenance and reliability of a highly automated materials handling system.
The site operates a range of automated equipment, including pallet conveyors, lifters, cranes and monorail systems, with the successful candidate responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance to keep the operation running efficiently.
This is a hands-on engineering role suited to an experienced multi-skilled engineer with an electrical bias who is comfortable fault-finding on automated equipment and working in a fast-paced operational environment.
Shift Pattern
The role operates on a rotating 3-week shift pattern:
- Week 1: 6:00am - 2:00pm
- Week 2: 7:00am - 3:00pm
- Week 3: 2:00pm - 10:00pm
- No night shifts
- 2 Saturdays per month, paid as overtime
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out servicing and maintenance of AMHE and automated warehouse equipment in line with manufacturer and company standards.
- Complete planned and scheduled repairs in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and industry best practice.
- Diagnose and prioritise system faults to minimise downtime and maintain continuous product flow.
- Carry out PPM and reactive maintenance across mechanical, electrical and automated systems.
- Fault-find on PLC-controlled equipment.
- Accurately record all maintenance activity, faults, repairs and work completed.
- Ensure maintenance activities are properly planned and coordinated to minimise disruption to operations.
- Maintain high standards of Health & Safety and comply with all relevant legislation and site procedures.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and performance.
- Ensure appropriate levels of engineering spares are maintained on site.
- Work professionally with customers, colleagues and other stakeholders.
- Follow company quality processes and procedures.
- Maintain a strong customer-focused approach, ensuring high levels of service delivery at all times.
Essential Experience
- Experience working within automated systems, warehouses, manufacturing or materials handling environments.
- Experience working with equipment such as pallet conveyors, automated cranes, lifters and automatic stretch wrappers.
- Good understanding of mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering drawings and technical manuals.
- Good understanding of PLC systems, with the ability to fault-find to I/O level.
- Experience working with PPM schedules and planned maintenance.
- Experience using CMMS systems for maintenance scheduling, fault logging and reporting.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Teams.
Qualifications
- Time-served engineering apprenticeship or equivalent.
- NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds or equivalent in Engineering.
- Electrical or Mechanical Engineering qualification such as ONC/HNC is desirable.
- Multi-skilled engineers with an electrical bias are prefered.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be a practical and reliable engineer with strong fault-finding skills and experience maintaining automated equipment. You will be comfortable working independently, prioritising faults and supporting the wider engineering team to keep a highly automated operation running efficiently.
Experience within automated warehousing, intralogistics, FMCG, manufacturing, conveyors or materials handling would be particularly relevant.
