Test Technician

The Test Technician is responsible for the functional testing and verification of electronic power products throughout the manufacturing process.

The role involves carrying out defined test procedures, identifying and documenting test failures, and ensuring products meet the required specifications before progressing to the next stage of production or being released for shipment.

Working closely with Production, Engineering and Quality teams, the Test Technician plays an important role in maintaining product quality, production and full product traceability.

This is a hands-on, process-driven position requiring a methodical approach, strong attention to detail and a commitment to following documented test procedures and quality requirements.

Main Functions

  • Perform routine and non-routine electrical testing of electronic assemblies and finished products in accordance with approved test procedures.
  • Safely and effectively operate automated and manual test equipment.
  • Identify, record and segregate failed or non-conforming units for further analysis or rework.
  • Accurately record test results to maintain complete product traceability.
  • Complete testing activities in line with production priorities and schedules to support manufacturing throughput.
  • Escalate test failures, abnormalities and equipment issues to the appropriate Production, Engineering or Quality personnel.
  • Carry out initial fault finding and diagnostics on failed units, providing clear test data and observations to support further investigation.

Key Responsibilities

Testing & Production

  • Execute production test procedures in accordance with released work instructions, test specifications and quality requirements.
  • Set up and operate test stations, fixtures and associated software.
  • Verify that test equipment and test stations are functioning correctly before use.
  • Perform visual, functional and electrical testing of electronic assemblies and finished products.
  • Support first-off, in-process and final testing as required.
  • Complete testing accurately and efficiently in line with production schedules and build priorities.
  • Identify and clearly label failed or non-conforming products and route them in accordance with established procedures.

Fault Finding & Diagnostics

  • Carry out basic fault isolation to confirm failure symptoms.
  • Record clear and accurate observations relating to failed units.
  • Provide relevant test data to support handover to Diagnostics or Engineering teams.
  • Escalate recurring failures, abnormal results and equipment issues appropriately.
  • Support the investigation of test failures and contribute to identifying potential causes.

Test Equipment & Quality

  • Handle test equipment, fixtures and associated tooling correctly.
  • Report calibration, maintenance and equipment reliability concerns.
  • Ensure test equipment is used in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Maintain accurate test records, including pass/fail status and relevant observations.
  • Support full product and test traceability through accurate data entry into MES, ERP or dedicated test systems.
  • Ensure products meet defined quality requirements before progressing to the next manufacturing stage or shipment.

Continuous Improvement & Training

  • Support continuous improvement activities by providing feedback on test procedures, test coverage and ease of execution.
  • Identify opportunities to improve testing efficiency, reliability and quality.
  • Contribute feedback on recurring test issues and process improvements.
  • Assist with training operators and junior technicians in standard test procedures when required.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties appropriate to the role of Test Technician.
