Mechanical Manager

The employer specialises in the warehouse automation and material handling industry and is a growing conveyor systems integrator delivering turnkey automation solutions across retail, e-commerce, and distribution environments. They have an exciting opportunity for a Manager of Mechanical Design Engineering to join their team. This position is well-suited to a hands-on engineering leader who is passionate about developing talent, driving innovation, and delivering world-class automation solutions from concept through production.
This position is based within the Engineering department and reports to senior leadership. You will lead a team of mechanical engineers, oversee new product development initiatives, and drive engineering best practices while supporting cross-functional business objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of mechanical design engineers and technicians.
- Drive engineering excellence through best practices, standardisation, and process improvement.
- Oversee new product development projects from concept, design, and prototyping through launch and post-launch support.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, operations, suppliers, and customers to deliver innovative engineering solutions.
- Support engineering changes, design updates, production troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure engineering deliverables are completed accurately, on time, and in alignment with quality standards.
- Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 20+ years of engineering experience with 5-10+ years of engineering leadership or management experience.
- Strong background in machine design, mechanical systems, tolerancing, and GD&T.
- Experience with power transmission systems including drives, gearboxes, pulleys, belts, motors, and related mechanical components.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks (preferred), AutoCAD, and ERP/PDM/PLM systems.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, engineering fundamentals, and Lean problem-solving methodologies.
- Experience within warehouse automation, conveyor systems, material handling, industrial automation, OEM machinery, or related industries is highly preferred.
- Willingness to travel up to 15-25% as required.
