Our client is a global leader in automated cargo handling, material handling and airport logistics solutions, delivering complex automation systems for airports, logistics operators and cargo facilities worldwide. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Site Project Manager to support the delivery of a major automated air cargo terminal project at San Francisco International Airport.

This opportunity would suit a driven and highly organized project professional who enjoys leading large-scale automation projects and wants to play a key role in delivering one of North America's most advanced air cargo handling facilities.

The Role

Reporting to the Project Director, you will be responsible for leading all site-based project activities from mobilization through final handover. You will act as the primary on-site representative, coordinating installation, integration, testing, commissioning and stakeholder activities while ensuring the project is delivered safely, on schedule and within budget.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all on-site project execution activities from mobilization through final handover.
  • Act as the primary site representative, coordinating between the client, subcontractors, engineering teams, suppliers and commissioning personnel.
  • Manage daily site operations including installation, construction coordination, testing, commissioning and closeout activities.
  • Develop and maintain detailed site schedules aligned with overall project milestones and contractual requirements.
  • Coordinate mechanical, electrical, controls and software installation activities across multiple work fronts.
  • Monitor project progress and proactively identify risks, delays, resource constraints and mitigation plans.
  • Manage subcontractors and field personnel, ensuring productivity, quality and compliance with project requirements.
  • Lead site meetings, progress reviews and coordination sessions with stakeholders.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), integrated system testing and operational readiness activities.
  • Coordinate project interfaces with airport operations, cargo operators, airlines and third-party contractors.
  • Track project costs, change orders, site budgets and resource utilization.
  • Ensure all project documentation, reports, inspections, permits and handover packages are completed accurately.
  • Provide regular project updates to senior leadership and the customer.
  • Drive successful project completion while maintaining customer satisfaction and contractual compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related technical discipline.
  • 8+ years of project management experience within airport systems, material handling, warehouse automation, industrial automation or large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing installation, integration and commissioning activities for complex automated systems.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical conveying systems, controls integration and industrial construction practices.
  • Experience managing subcontractors, field teams and multiple project stakeholders.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, project schedules and construction documentation.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and organizational skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Project, Primavera P6 or similar scheduling tools.
  • Ability and willingness to work full-time on-site throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Airport cargo handling systems.
  • Baggage Handling Systems (BHS).
  • Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS).
  • Unit Load Device (ULD) handling systems.
  • Warehouse automation and distribution center automation.
  • Rail-guided vehicles, automated transport systems and robotic material handling technologies.
  • Large-scale logistics, parcel or e-commerce fulfillment projects.
  • Experience working within active airport operating environments.
